YEREVAN, September 9. /ARKA/. Victor Rebets, the general director of the South Caucasus Railway company, summarized the performance results for August at a telephone meeting on September 8, the press office of the company reported.

Rebets said the cargo transportation targets were fulfilled by 107% and stressed the importance of efforts to attract more freight to the railway.

One of the positive trends is the increased local and international transportation, Rebets said. Average car weight has grown by 74 tons to 1,563 tons and freight car circulation time has reduced.

The general director has specifically mentioned 5.4% increase in railroaders’ wages as of the end of August, compared to the same period of the year before. Average salary in the company was 203,000 at the end of the reporting month.

The main future challenges are fulfilling the freight transportation targets, attracting new freight volumes to the railway, balancing between spending and revenues and preparing for winter operations, Rebets said.

The head of the company reminded of the upcoming regular inspection of infrastructures in October and instructed the departments to make all the required preparations.

South Caucasus Railway, a subsidiary of Russian Railways, runs Armenian Railway, which was handed over to the South Caucasus Railway on February 13, 2008 for 30-year concession management with a right to prolong the management term for other 10 years. --0---
