YEREVAN, April 16. /ARKA/. Armenian Environment Minister  Erik Grigoryan presented today to parliament members for the second reading  a bill to amend the Law on Trade and Services. The proposed amendments call for banning  the use of disposable plastic bags.

He said the bill bans from January 1, 2022 the use of disposable plastic bags  up to 50 microns thick in retails  and food shops  with the exception of bags for  weighing and packaging goods, as well as those made from recycled materials.

According to the minister, during the preparation of the bill, consultations had been  held with 44 manufacturers of these products and points of sale.

He said the time before the deadline should be used by manufacturers to shift to production of biodegradable packages. -0-
