Armenia to impose ban on imports of Turkish goods
YEREVAN, October 16. /ARKA/. Armenia's Ministry of Economy  has unveiled today a bill designed to ban the import of goods of Turkish origin into the country.

It said the bill is in tune with Article 47 and Appendix 7 of the  Eurasian Economic Union  Treaty of 2014. The Minister of Economy is asked to  notify the Eurasian Economic Commission of the temporary ban. The Chairman of the State Revenue Committee is asked to ensure control over the implementation of paragraph 1 of this decision in the manner prescribed by the legislation of Armenia.

This decision comes into force on December 31, 2020 and is valid for a period of six months.

This bill is prompted by Turkish authorities'  provocative calls, supply of weapons to Azerbaijan and deployment of  mercenary terrorists to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, as well as by Turkey's efforts to undermine the stability in the region, the process of peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs.

“The economic restriction on the import of goods of Turkish origin, nevertheless, first of all includes a security component, since the obvious fact is that Turkey openly supports Azerbaijan in the military and terrorist actions unleashed against Artsakh, (Nagorno-Karabakh)” the ministry said.

The ministry says the banned goods can  be easily replaced with imports from other countries or locally-made ones.
According to the statistics, in the first half of this year, Armenia exports to Turkey dropped by 72.3% year-on-year to  $374,000, while Armenia's imports from Turkey dropped by 14.5% to about $99 million.

Armenia's imports from Turkey range from clothes, shoes, oil products to household goods, construction materials, etc. -0-
