Armenia to streamline border control leaving at checkpoints only border guards and customs officers

YEREVAN, March 24. /ARKA/. The number of Armenian government agencies vested with power to exercise border control will be reduced from current five to two, according to a decision approved today by the Cabinet. The move is meant to streamline all border check procedures, it said.

The head of the State Revenue Committee Rustam Badasyan said that border control will be implemented through "single window" principle.

According to him, now the control is implemented by five agencies - Border Troops of the National Security Service, the Customs Service, the Police, the Food Safety Inspectorate and the Transport Inspectorate.

He said under the decision there will be only the Customs Service and the Border Troops, which will take over the functions of the other three agencies.

"A citizen will need to submit one package of documents only to one body and will not be forced to go to different windows with the same documents when passing the checkpoint" he said. --0--
