Armenia to take up BSEC chairmanship in 2018

Armenia will take over the chairmanship of the organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) in 2018, the Armenian ministry of transport, communications and information technology said following minister Vahan Martirosyan’s meeting today with secretary general of the BSEC Permanent International Secretariat Michael Christides.

YEREVAN, December 4. /ARKA/. Armenia will take over the chairmanship of the organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) in 2018, the Armenian ministry of transport, communications and information technology said following minister Vahan Martirosyan’s meeting today with secretary general of the BSEC Permanent International Secretariat Michael Christides.

"This is a very important moment for our organization and I am confident that during Armenia’s chairmanship the organization will register progress," said Christides.

The two men were said to have discussed a number of organizational issues, attaching importance to the implementation of transport projects. They also spoke about the Transport Forum, which will be held next year in Leipzig, Germany.  An agreement was also reached on holding an international IT forum in Armenia.

The Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) includes 11 states of the Black Sea region.  Armenia signed BSEC memoranda "On Simplification of Road Freight in the Black Sea Region" and "On Coordinated Development of the Black Sea Ring Highway," meant to facilitate transportation in the Black Sea region, to simplify border crossing procedures and coordinate the transport sector of the BSEC member countries. --0--
