YEREVAN, December 17. /ARKA/. This year Armenia's grape crop may reach 170 thousand metric tons, the head of the Union of Winemakers of Armenia Avag Harutyunyan stated at a press conference on Monday. He said this figure will increase by 20% in 2020.
He said also that in 2020 the price per kilogram of grape may increase from the current 150 drams to 160 drams, which will in turn push up the prices of Armenian wines.
Harutyunyan said there is a grape shortage in Armenia, because winemaking industry is developing at a faster rate than the vineyard planting. However, according to him, the shortage makes manufacturers place emphasis on quality, not on the quantity of wines.
"Winemaking in Armenia is developing very quickly. The quantity is very small, because there is shortage of grapes, but there is a sharp positive dynamics in terms of quality," the expert said. Harutyunyan also expects more investments from Russia and other countries in the local winemaking in 2020.
Earlier, he stated that in 2018, the real grape crop in Armenia slashed to 60,000 metric tons. ($1 - 477.43 drams) -0-
