Armenian MP proposes combining Armenia and Russian income tax platforms to help Russians who moved to Armenia

YEREVAN, December 26. /ARKA/. Khachatur Sukiasyan, an Armenian MP from the ruling Civil Contract party, proposed combining the income tax platforms of Armenia and Russia to help Russian nationals who have moved to Armenia in recent months, avoid additional tax liabilities in their home country.

According to the Russian legislation, if a Russian citizen stays outside the territory of Russia for more than 180 days in a year, he/she loses his/her tax residency and higher income tax rate is applied to them.

In this regard, Sukiasyan suggested combining income tax platforms of Armenia and Russia so that these 180 days are taken into account when a Russian national stays in a Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) member state. Both Russia and Armenia are EEU members.

Armenian Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan said in response to the proposal that this issue is important , and discussions have already been held on how the Russians in Armenia may be affected by Russia's intention to apply a higher income tax rate on Russian nationals leaving abroad.

"We have to make sure that we provide the most convenient tax regime for those who are in Armenia, so that their work and life in our country is more comfortable," he said.

Earlier, Kerobyan estimated the number of new residents of Armenia, who have been living here for at least two weeks, at 110 thousand. Over 60 thousand of them have Armenian surnames, the overwhelming majority of the remaining 50 thousand are from Russia but there are also people from Ukraine and Belarus. -0-
