YEREVAN, July 4. /ARKA/. Edmon Marukyan, a member of the National Assembly of Armenia, has addressed the country’s antitrust agency urging it to sort through the three-fold increase in fares for air flights to Russia.
“Taking advantage of temporary closure of Upper Lars border checkpoint, air companies raised prices for air tickets for flights to Russia (especially to Moscow) and today they are three times more expensive than usually. In fact, the companies are trying to gain excessive profits by violating citizens’ rights,” the lawmaker is quoted by Novosti-Armenia as saying.
The motor road with Upper Lars border checkpoint is the only way connecting Armenia with Russia. On June 23 the road was closed because of a flood and landslide threats.
Marukyan has grounds for suspecting anti-competitive collusion. He finds it obvious that the air companies arranged these price hikes, since there were no other reasons for rice rise – air fuel prices
“I propose to commence proceedings and to take measures for restoring just prices for air tickers, and I also propose to bring the offenders to books,” he said. --0---
