YEREVAN, October 6. /ARKA/. Russian news agencies report that Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) has begun to use the airspace of Armenia to operate passenger flights from capital Baku to its exclave Nakhichevan.

‘This step demonstrates Azerbaijan's resolute readiness to unblock transport communications in the region, which meets the interests of all regional countries," the air carrier said in a statement, disseminated by Russian news agency TASS.

According to the airline, the new route will cut flight time and fuel consumption. AZAL also specified that the routes through Armenia and Iran will be used in parallel.

"From now on, when performing this flights, AZAL will be able to use all existing air corridors, including those passing through the territories of Armenia and Iran," the airline said in a statement.

It emerged on Tuesday that Iran banned Azerbaijani military aircraft from flying over its territory. Azerbaijani media, citing sources in the defense sector, reported that the ban would not have an impact on the supplies to armed forces stationed in the exclave. - 0--
