Bagratashen customs officers accused of assisting motor oil smuggler

Armenia's Special Investigative Service (SIS) said its employees have revealed numerous cases of smuggling of motor oil from Georgia without paying taxes, duties and other mandatory payment, which caused g damage in the amount of almost 54 million drams.

YEREVAN, September 4. /ARKA/. Armenia's Special Investigative Service (SIS) said its employees have revealed numerous cases of smuggling of motor oil from Georgia without paying taxes, duties and other mandatory payment, which caused g damage in the amount of almost 54 million drams.
SIS said it has obtained evidence proving that on January 17, V. A. who was head of the Bagratashen customs point and customs inspector G.M. with the assistance of A.T. allowed truck drivers with 1,150 containers of motor oil to enter the territory of Armenia through the checkpoint without filling out a declaration.
As a result, the cargo owner did not pay taxes and other compulsory payments in the amount of 16,034,896 drams. The oil was transported at the instruction of a resident of the Tavush region, L.A., engaged in illegal import.
In addition, the staff of the customs point on January 25 and 29, as well as on March 1, without a customs declaration, allowed 680 containers of motor oil to be transported to the country through the customs point each time. Because of this, about 37,876,361 drams of taxes and other mandatory payments were not paid to the state budget.
The defendants in the case were charged with abuse of official powers and complicity in the abuse of official powers. In relation to the resident of the Tavush region L.A. and customs inspector G.M. arrest was chosen as a preventive measure. The preliminary investigation continues. Measures are being taken to clarify the entire criminal scheme.
A suspect or accused of an alleged crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty according to a court ruling that has entered into legal force, in accordance with the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia ($ 1 - 488 AMD). -0-
