Bill submitted to Russian State Duma authorizes government to ban sale of certain categories of goods in the country

A bill sent to the Russian State Duma (lower parliament chamber) by the ministry of finance authorizes the government to introduce a ban on the sale of certain categories of goods, primarily those that were brought from any of the Eurasian Economic Union member-countries with import duties assessed at a rate different from the Union’s common customs tariff rates.
YEREVAN, March 3. /ARKA/. A bill sent to the Russian State Duma (lower parliament chamber) by the ministry of finance authorizes the government to introduce a ban on the sale of certain categories of goods, primarily those that were brought from any of the Eurasian Economic Union member-countries with import duties assessed at a rate different from the Union’s common customs tariff rates.
The draft law also contains provisions that clarify the authority of the Russian government, should it decide to introduce a ban, to determine the procedure for applying said ban, including for the disposal of such goods found in the market; and to determine which federal executive authorities shall oversee compliance with the regulation introducing the ban and the disposal of such goods found in the market.
Enactment of the law will help improve enforcement of the ban on selling certain categories of goods in Russia and put in place uniform conditions for selling goods, regardless of how businesses deliver them, as well as the types of contracts involved and other factors, according to the ministry. The draft law was considered and approved by the Russian Government on 22 February 2017.
The Eurasian Economic Union comprises Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan Kyrgyzstan and Russia. -0-
