Car import in Armenia built up 71.2% and customs clearance prices downed
YEREVAN, January 17. /ARKA/. Car import in Armenia has grown and customs clearance prices have been downed, David Ananyan, head of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia said Wednesday at a news conference.

In his words, 67,255 cars were imported in Armenia in 2018 against 39,282 in 2017 (a 71.2% growth) and 16,887 in 2016 (298% growth).

“Armenia came as a convenient channel for importing cars into the Eurasian Economic Union, since before 2020 car import tariff remains unchanged - at 10% [the list in the agreement on Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union], while in other countries common Eurasian tariffs are already in force,” Ananyan said. “As a result, many, mostly Kazakhstan residents are importing cars from Armenia.”

He said that customs revenue from car import grew 46.2% in 2018, compared with 2017, and 159%, compared with 2016.

In his words, 14,000 cars costing up to $5,000 each, 1,700 costing from $5,000 to $10,000 and the remaining that cost more than $15,000 were imported in Armenia in 2016, while one year later 35,000 cars cheaper than $5,000, 2,700 cars from $5,000 to $10,000, 500 cars from $10,000 to 15,000 and the remaining cars more expensive than $15,000 were imported in the country.

Ananyan said an average customs duty on one car amounted to AMD 581,900 in 2018 showing a 14.6% decrease, compared with the previous year.

He said that the committee has been carried out customs formalization of cars by their invoice cost. If the invoice cost is doubtful or it is lower than the control price which can be calculated by using a special calculator on the committee’s website, then an additional examination is needed.

He also said that the cost of damaged vehicles will be decided by taking into account the price pointed out by an expert.

Cars are imported in Armenia mainly from Georgia, Japan and the United States. German-, Japan-, U.S.- and Korea-made cars are imported in Armenia. -0---
