YEREVAN, September 25. /ARKA/. A conference on corporate social responsibility will take place in Yerevan on October 2 in French University in Armenia, Gagik Makaryan, the chairman of the Republican Union of Employers of Armenia, told journalists on Friday.
The conference is organized by CAFA Armenian-French Chamber, the Republican Union of Employers of Armenia and the French University in Armenia.
«The corporate social responsibility problem is quite pressing now in Armenia,» he said. «Today the entire world complies with international conventions trying to sole corporate social responsibility problem, ensure human rights and environment protection etc.. And this conference is expected to improve the things in the country.»
More than 70 participants will attend the event. France's experts are invited.
Makaryan said the corporate social responsibility development in Armenia is hobbled by business people's improper awareness – they underestimate the gravity of the problem and corruption.
Jean-Michel Kasparian, coordinator for economic programs at France's embassy in Yerevan, on his side, said that a summit on the changing climate will be held in Paris in November and this will be a landmark world event.
However, he said, corporate social responsibility contains not only environmental issues, but also important social problems.
Kasparian said that corporate social responsibility is taken in Armenia, just as in many other countries, as burden imposed on the country from the outside, but this is not burden, this is a good chance for development of companies, which will allow creating new professions through green economy and will improve living standards of the companies' employees.
Nazareth Seferian, an independent corporate social responsibility expert, said that corporate social responsibility is a business function that gives competitive advantages to companies.
«If employees of companies believe in their organizations' social mission, they will work at their companies for a longer period of time, and, as it is known, today skilled specialists can do plenty for companies,» he said.
Corporate social responsibility (CSR, also called corporate conscience, corporate citizenship or responsible business) is a form of corporate self-regulation integrated into a business model.
CSR policy functions as a self-regulatory mechanism whereby a business monitors and ensures its active compliance with the spirit of the law, ethical standards and national or international norms. With some models, a firm's implementation of CSR goes beyond compliance and engages in "actions that appear to further some social good, beyond the interests of the firm and that which is required by law."
CSR aims to embrace responsibility for corporate actions and to encourage a positive impact on the environment and stakeholders including consumers, employees, investors, communities, and others. --0----
