YEREVAN, November 9. / ARKA /. The Czech Airlines and Polish LOT airline will start operating flights to Armenia before the end of the year, a deputy economy minister Emil Tarasyan said today.

According to the Armenian ministry of economy, the frequency of air travels to Armenia  as of April 2015 decreased by 13% when compared to the same period of 2014, while the passenger traffic increased by 6%.

As for ticket prices, which are higher here than in neighboring countries, they dropped by 14%, the deputy minister said adding that when compared to December 2015 prices, the decline is 15.9%.

According to the ministry, 24 airlines, including eight from Russia, are operating flights to Armenia. LOT airline suspended earlier this year temporarily flights to Armenia, but said would resume from January 2016.

According to a political scientist Armen Grigoryan, the main reason for the high prices of air tickets in Armenia is high taxes imposed by the government on air transport. According to a USAID 2011 study, Airbus 320 paid 28,500 euros for a 2 hour stay in Yerevan, while the price in Latvia's Riga was  about 16,000 euros. -0-
