YEREVAN, May 16. /ARKA/. Establishment of a common natural gas market for the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) member states is one of the main priorities of the Armenian government in the next five years, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at an online press conference on Saturday.

Pashinyan recalled that EEU member states had reached consensus on  a development strategy, with the exception of one point - establishment of the common natural gas market. He said EEU members  fixed that there should be a common natural gas market, however, the principles by which it should act have not been agreed upon.

Pashinyan noted that on May 19 a remote meeting of the leaders of the EEU member countries will be held.

“I hope that this strategic point will also be agreed upon and our economic task will be to work in the created common economic space, develop partnerships and international cooperation. For the most part, Armenia has no other problems within the EEU,” Pashinyan said.

On March 31, Armenia's Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan sent a letter to Alexey Miller, the chairman of the Russian Gazprom, with a proposal to start new negotiations on revision of the price of natural gas supplied to Armenia.

“Considering forecasts and the current situation with energy resources in world markets, including the current situation with oil and natural gas prices, we consider it appropriate to start new negotiations on revision of the price of natural gas supplied to Armenia. In particular, we consider it timely to discuss the issue of reducing the price per thousand cubic meters of gas on the Armenian-Georgian border, as well as discuss the possibility of payment for gas in national currency,“ Grigoryan’s letter says.

Although the Russian natural gas is delivered to Armenia by Gazprom at a $165 per one thousand cubic meters, Gazprom’s Armenian subsidiary – Gazprom Armenia – sells it to the bulk of Armenian households at almost $300. Gazprom Armenia also deals with the storage, distribution and sale of gas. -0-
