EU to help Armenia improve its civil aviation safety standards

The European Union will help Armenia improve flight safety, the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure said today following a meeting between Minister Suren Papikyan and the Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia Andrea Viktorin.
YEREVAN, June 19. /ARKA/. The European Union will help Armenia improve flight safety, the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure said today following a meeting between Minister Suren Papikyan and the Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia Andrea Viktorin.
The ministry said the parties spoke about further cooperation aimed at reforming Armenia's civil aviation and the measures that will be taken to eliminate safety gaps.
Papikyan said that at the moment, the Ministry and the Civil Aviation Committee were working intensively to eliminate these gaps.
"I am sure that thanks to the effective support of the EU, we will increase the level of our aviation safety by applying the standards and safety requirements put forward by the EU," the minister said.
Noting the importance of systematic and targeted work towards eliminating aviation problems, Viktorin said that this issue is clearly not a problem of the past year and a half. According to her, for a long time proper steps have not been taken to eliminate them.
“But we can consider the current situation as an opportunity to increase the level of aviation safety in Armenia and to get out of it stronger. We must work together to solve the problem,” she emphasized.
Earlier this year the European Commission added all airlines licensed in Armenia to its latest EU Air Safety List. These companies are subject to an operating ban or operational restrictions within the European Union as they do not meet international safety standards. This decision followed the hearings of the Armenian Civil Aviation Committee (CAC) and six Armenian air carriers- Armenia Airways, Armenian Helicopters, Atlantis Armenian Airlines, Atlantis European Airlines, Mars Avia and Skyball. -0-
