YEREVAN, April 22. /ARKA/. A second terminal will be built at Yerevan's Zvartnots Airport, announced Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, presenting the election platform of the Civil Contract party.

"We plan to increase passenger capacity annually until 2033. The construction of the second terminal at Zvartnots Airport can no longer be postponed," he said live on his social media.

The prime minister noted that Zvartnots Airport experiences almost the same congestion as Yerevan during rush hour, and the airport is struggling to handle passenger traffic in these tense conditions.

Last October, Marcelo Wende, CEO of Armenia International Airports CJSC (the concessionaire for Zvartnots Airport), announced plans to invest $500 million over 10 years to double the size of Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan, cementing Armenia's status as a competitive hub in the region.

The plans include increasing the number of gates from six to sixteen, and more than doubling the number of arrivals halls, immigration areas, and customs areas.

Yerevan Zvartnots International Airport is operated by Armenia International Airports CJSC under a 30-year concession management agreement signed with the Armenian government in 2001. The company also manages Shirak Airport in Gyumri.

The owner of Armenia International Airports CJSC is American International Airports, a subsidiary of Corporación América S.A., which belongs to Eduardo Eurnekian, an Argentine citizen of Armenian descent.-0-
