FAO director-general to visit Armenia in summer

Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, José Graziano da Silva, plans to visit Armenia this summer, Armenian Minister of Agriculture, Ignaty Arakelyan, told journalists on Thursday.

YEREVAN, March 16. /ARKA/. Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, José Graziano da Silva, plans to visit Armenia this summer, Armenian Minister of Agriculture, Ignaty Arakelyan, told journalists on Thursday.
"Graziano da Silva's visit is expected in June, which is a good opportunity to discuss problems in our agrarian sector and expand cooperation between our ministry and FAO," Arakelyan said.
He said in cooperation with FAO, a vineyard will be set up to grow seedlings that are resistant to phylloxera disease. It is also planned to establish an experimental fish farm with a water saving system.
The new FAO-Armenia Country Program Framework was signed in December last year. It is designed to combine national and regional experience with the best international practices and standards. The agreement covers the period from 2016 to 2020. -0-
