Four times more Russian nationals granted residence permit in Armenia
YEREVAN, November 30. /ARKA/. Some 2,820 Russian nationals registered their place of residence in Armenia in a time span from September 21 to November 11, the Russian Business Consulting (RBC) news outlet reported, citing the figures provided to it by Armenian Police.
This is nearly four times more than during the same period last year, when 722 Russian citizens were granted temporary registration in Armenia.
The number of applications for residence permits filed by Russians has also increased to 708 from 277 a year ago. Some 273 residence permits were granted, up from 257 a year ago. One Russian citizen was denied a residence permit during this period in 2022, as many as in the same time span last year. The Armenian police did not specify the reason for the refusals.
Russian citizens have the right to stay in Armenia for no more than 180 days a year. If a Russian citizen plans to stay in the country for more than 30 days, he/she must register at the place of stay.
According to the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), 267,000 Russian nationals entered Armenia in the third quarter of 2022, the record number over the past five years.
Armenian’s Migration Service said earlier that since the beginning of the year and until late October more than 786 thousand Russian nationals entered the country and 744,000 of then returned to Russia with more than 40 thousand Russian citizens staying in Armenia. This is 2.5 times more than during the whole last year.
The two waves of Russian immigration had a positive effect on the Armenian economy: the service sector grew and the number of cafes and bars opened by Russian citizens increased. On the other hand, prices went up as well. The Central Bank of Armenia has already increased its inflation forecast from 4% to 10%. --0--
