Jewelers Street appears in Yerevan
YEREVAN, December 21. /ARKA/. According to Yerevan mayor Taron Margaryan’s order, Kashvegortsneri Street in Yerevan (Tanners Street) was renamed Jewelers Street in response to a request of the Armenian Jewelers Association (AJA).

This street houses a series of buildings of the Meridian free jewelry economic zone, the Yerevan municipality said in a press release today. Incidentally, this street will host an annual congress of the World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) in 2016, it said.

The decision to make Yerevan the host city of the annual gathering was made at this year's conference in Brazil.  Some 1,000 guests from different countries are expected to attend the congress. Master classes for designers and managers and jewelry exhibitions with sales will be held as part of the event.

CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation, was founded in Paris in 1926 as BIBOA, an organization whose mission was to represent and advance the interests of the jewellery trade in Europe. It was restructured as CIBJO in 1961, with a global rather than a continental focus.

The Meridian free economic zone offers its resident companies the following benefits: free repatriation of capital, profits and dividends, no currency restrictions, state support for the jewelry sector, the rich tradition of Armenian jewelry and the availability of skilled workforce. Residents are exempted from all taxes, except income tax. -0-
