YEREVAN, January 16. /ARKA/. A meat market near Tashir shopping center in Khorenatsi street in downtown Yerevan will be totally rebuilt, according to Vahe Danielyan, head of a unit at the State Food Safety Service.
Speaking to reporters he said officials from the Food Safety Service have had eight meetings over the last two months with owners of meat kiosks and an agreement was reached that the rebuilding will kick off from January 15th.
According to him, once the process is over, meat products will be sold only in closed areas and all the kiosks will be equipped with refrigerators and running hot and cold water. Danielyan did not say when the rebuilding process will be over.
The move comes after a study conducted by the National Academy of Sciences had found that 80% of meat kiosks in the area were in the ‘zone of high risk’ and sale of meat products in such conditions endangered the health of consumers. -0-
