YEREVAN, October 26. / ARKA /. The mutual recognition of 'standards of fineness' for hallmarking gold items across the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) is extremely important for Armenian jewelers , Emil Grigoryan, the chairman of the Union of Armenian Jewelers, said today on the sidelines of the fifth international Yerevan Jewelry 2015 Show.
“If we intend to create a common market, then finding a solution to this problem should be a priority," Grigoryan told reporters on Monday.
According to him, even tax-related problems do not cause as much trouble to Armenian jewelers as this one.
According to him, it takes 10 days to place the repeat ‘standard of fineness' hallmark in Russia, which affects the sales and earnings of working capital.
‘We thought that this procedure would facilitate after Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, but it did not happen, ‘ he added.
He said this issue had been discussed in December 2013 during a visit to Armenia by officials from the Russian ministry of finance, but the final decision is still pending.
Some 80 companies are showcasing their products at this year’s exhibition hosted by Meridian free economic zone in Yerevan, which is a unique platform with a cluster infrastructure for the production of jewelry, watches and diamond processing.
According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, production of jewelry items in January-August 2015 surged by 59% year-on-year to 11.15 billion dram. Export of precious and semi-precious stones, precious metals and products in January-August 2015 declined by 6.5% to $140.3 million; imports of these types of goods also plunged by 64.2% to $ 73.2 million. -0-
