Pilot agriculture insurance program to be developed in Armenia next year

A pilot agriculture insurance program will be developed in Armenia next year, deputy minister of agriculture Armen Harutyunyan said today.

YEREVAN, December 2. /ARKA/. A pilot agriculture insurance program will be developed in Armenia next year, deputy minister of agriculture Armen Harutyunyan said today.
"At this point, we have a preliminary agreement that the pilot program will be co-financed by the German Development Bank (KfW) and the government of Armenia", - he said on Friday during a press conference.
He said the first phase will include classification of farms into large, medium and small. The size of insurance premiums will be based on these categories. According to him, the insurance will cover damages caused by frost, hail, drought, storms, strong winds and floods.
"At this point we are discussing the list of crops to be insured,’ - said Harutyunyan. -0-
