President: Armenia should stimulate export of competitive agro products

Armenia’s president Serzh Sargsyan had a meeting today with acting minister of agriculture Ignaty Arakelyan, who spoke about the reforms implemented in this area and the ongoing programs.

YEREVAN, May 24. /ARKA/. Armenia’s president Serzh Sargsyan had a meeting today with acting minister of agriculture Ignaty Arakelyan, who spoke about the reforms implemented in this area and the ongoing programs.
Arakelyan was quoted by Sargsyan’s press office as saying that the ministry continues providing fertilizers, diesel fuel and seeds at discounted prices as well as subsidized loans to farmers.
Sargsyan said all the programs designed to stimulate the export of competitive agricultural products should be enhanced, saying also that many imported agricultural products should be substituted by domestically grown products.
He also spoke about the need to modernize the agricultural machineries. The minister was instructed to develop special target programs with clear time schedules and to continue the installation of the drip irrigation system.
Arakelyan also presented to the president the programs implemented by the Armenian Viticulture and Wine Foundation. -0-
