The pricing scheme for Russian gas supplied to Armenia should be more transparent both on Russian and Armenian sides, expert of the Central Asia and Caucasus Center of Russia’s Oriental Studies Institute, researcher of Black Sea and Caspian region studies institute Andrey Areshev said.
YEREVAN, December 6. /ARKA/. The pricing scheme for Russian gas supplied to Armenia should be more transparent both on Russian and Armenian sides, expert of the Central Asia and Caucasus Center of Russia’s Oriental Studies Institute, researcher of Black Sea and Caspian region studies institute Andrey Areshev said.
Following the negotiations of the presidents Sargsyan and Putin on December 2, ArmRosgasprom will get the Russian gas at 189 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters (as compared to 270 dollars before) at the border. Yet, the population will continue paying 156,000 drams (385 dollars) per 1,000 cubic meters. This gave rise to discontent among population.
Issues of ownership, gas distribution, brokers in the chain from Georgian border to Armenian consumer require a transparent approach, Areshev said at Yerevan-Moscow video bridge on results of Russian president’s visit to Armenia.
Following the negotiations of the presidents Sargsyan and Putin, Armenia and Russia signed a number of documents in gas sector envisaging, in particular, increasing Gasprom’s share in ArmRosgasprom to 100% and reducing the gas price for Armenia to 189 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters.
Apart from this, Gasprom Export ojsc and ArmRosgasprom signed a contract obliging the Russian gas holding to supply up to 2.5 billion cubic meters of gas to Armenia every year; the price will be defined by the Russian gas pricing formula. ($1=406.11drams). –0—
