YEREVAN, October 29. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, speaking today at a regular Cabinet meeting, explained how Armenia has managed to improve its rank in Doing Business  report.

Armenia went three notches up in the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation’s Doing Business 2016 Report to the 35th position among 189 countries.

“Armenia is also among 14% of the countries in the report which have implemented more than three reforms,” Abrahamyan said.

Armenia improved three of the ten indicators under review – permission for construction (by 10 notches), foreign trade (29 notches) and the degree of securing compliance with contractual obligations (by 8 notches).

“As a result of accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, Armenia has cut time and expenses necessary for foreign trade deals – border formalities take three hours now instead of 50 hours before,” the premier said.

Armenia is one of the flagship countries in simplicity of registration of new companies – it came fifth in the Business Doing ranking. Business registration takes three days in Armenia, just as in Denmark, and property registration seven days (the 14th rank).

Nevertheless, Abrahamyan called on officials not to be satisfied with what has already been achieved. He promised to keep his eye on things in this area.

Doing Business annual study provides objective measures of business regulations for local firms in 189 economies and selected cities at the subnational level. --0----
