Repair of Stepanavan airport to end next year

The major repair of an airport in the northern Armenian town of Stepanavan in Lori region will be completed in 2016, territorial administration and emergencies minister Armen Yeritsyan said on Monday.

YEREVAN, November 2. / ARKA /. The major repair of an airport in the northern Armenian town of Stepanavan in Lori region will be completed in 2016, territorial administration and emergencies minister Armen Yeritsyan said on Monday.
He said the airport will house heavy helicopters and light aircraft. He added that negotiations to that end are underway with Russian and Swiss companies.
In 2013 the Stepanavan airport was handed to this ministry. The government plans also to resume the operation of another airport in Kapan, the administrative center of the southern region of Syunik. Small aircraft and helicopters are supposed to carry out exploration work and put out forest fires. -0-
