Robert von Rekowsky finds combination of position of manager with ownership of company acceptable

YEREVAN, April 22. /ARKA/. Combination of the position of manager with ownership of a company is quite acceptable, said Robert von Rekowsky, vice president for emerging markets strategy of Fidelity Investments and an independent member of Ameriabank’s directorial board, who arrived in Armenia on April 19 to share his experience and knowledge with Armenian businessmen at a discussion organized by Ameriabank on global economic prospects and the role of emerging markets.

He said that very often owners, shareholders or members of their families are also managers of their companies and it does not necessarily mean that corporate management is poor in such companies. 

It doesn’t mean that there can’t be clear relations with clients and other shareholders in such companies. Nevertheless, it happens sometimes that relations with the mentioned people are not clear.  

At least, there is no need to involve minority shareholders in corporate management of small private companies where manager and owner is the same person. 

Von Rekowsky added that when a company decides to expand its activity and enter IPO market or finance corporate debt, its structure changes. In this case, corporate management becomes an instrument for regulating this activity. 

Thus, the role of corporate management rises when a company has a large number of minority investors and when the owner and the manager are different persons.
