South Caucasus Railway CJSC (SCR) said Wednesday it operates in a normal mode despite heavy snow.

YEREVAN, January 9. /ARKA/. South Caucasus Railway CJSC (SCR) said Wednesday it operates in a normal mode despite heavy snow. At present, all the measures are taken to ensure safety on the railroads.
Intensive snow cleaning works were carried out on Nurnus-Tsovagyugh, Gyumri-Ani, Gyumri-Kaltakhchy, Maisyan-Jajur railway segments. Nearly 200 people and 3 snow cleaning vehicles were carrying out the works: 2 vehicles were operating in the direction of Gyumri, and one—to Sevan.
The works will continue today as well. Moreover, three vehicles will clean now the snow in the direction of Gyumri.
People prefer moving via railroads, as a number of highways are closed or hardly passable due to the snowfall, the company reports.
Freight and local trains operate in accordance with the schedule, so does Yerevan-Tbilisi-Yerevan international train.
South Caucasus Railways, a 100-percent subsidiary of Russian Railways, runs Armenian Railway.
Armenian Railways was handed over to the South Caucasus Railways on February 13, 2008 for 30-year concession management with a right to prolong the management term for other 10 years. -0-
