Taron Avia suspends flights from Gyumri

The Armenian airline Taron Avia has temporarily suspended flights from the Shirak airport in the second-largest town of Gyumri to Russian Samara, Rostov-on-Don and Krasnodar, but continues regular flights to Moscow from the Zvartnots airport in Yerevan, the head of the Main Civil Aviation Department Sergey Avetisyan said at a press conference today.

YEREVAN, December 26. /ARKA/. The Armenian airline Taron Avia has temporarily suspended flights from the Shirak airport in the second-largest town of Gyumri to Russian Samara, Rostov-on-Don and Krasnodar, but continues regular flights to Moscow from the Zvartnots airport in Yerevan, the head of the Main Civil Aviation Department Sergey Avetisyan said at a press conference today.
In his words, the decision was prompted by the low demand in the winter months of January and February. He said this is done by actually all airlines. Avetisyan added that Taron Avia will resume flights in spring.
In another aviation-related news the Turkmen Airlines will operate the maiden Ashgabat-Yerevan-Frankfurt flight on December 27. Avetisyan said this is will be the first flight in the history of Armenia to be carried out using the fifth freedom of the air.
The fifth freedom of the air is the right or privilege, in respect of scheduled international air services, granted by one state to another state to put down and to take on, in the territory of the first state, traffic coming from or destined to a third state (also known as a fifth freedom right).
According to Avetisyan, after arriving in Yerevan the aircraft will continue to Frankfurt in Germany. ‘One flight will be made weekly, but if the route is in demand, there is a possibility of increasing the number of flights, "Avetisyan said. -0-
