He said the decision stems from an accord reached during Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko’s visit to Azerbaijan. The ambassador said under a mechanisms worked out by the customs agencies of the two countries, products from these territories can be supplied only if they are licensed by the central authorities in Kiev and Baku.
According to the Ukrainian diplomat, the goods produced in Nagorno-Karabakh, can cross the border of Ukraine only with the approval of Baku. A similar scheme Azerbaijan applies in respect of goods originating from the Donbas region of Ukraine.
"Let us take the marking on champagne. If the marking says that the wine is produced by Artemovsk winery in Donbass, Ukraine, then everything is all right. But if the word Ukraine is replaced with a Novorossia (New Russia) or something else, naturally, Azerbaijan will not let them in. This same approach applies to goods produced in Nagorno-Karabakh," said Mishchenko.
"These rules went into force immediately after a corresponding agreement was signed by the heads of customs agencies of Ukraine and Azerbaijan,’ the ambassador said. -0-
