IMF says ready to send fiscal expert to Armenia

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) stand ready to send a fiscal expert to Armenia to help the government reform the tax system, Deputy Managing Director Murilo Portugal reported Saturday at a press conference in Yerevan.
YEREVAN, November 24. /ARKA/. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) stand ready to send a fiscal expert to Armenia to help the government reform the tax system, Deputy Managing Director Murilo Portugal reported Saturday at a press conference in Yerevan.
The RA Government had applied to IMF for assistance, and the fund decided to send an expert to Armenia, Portugal said, adding IMF needs time to choose a specialist who will be able to assist the Armenian government in carrying out tax reforms.
The IMF representative stressed the importance of tax reforms in creating equal opportunities for market participants and boosting the country’s financial system. Having an effective tax system, Armenia will be able to combat shadow economy, according to Portugal. The IMF expert will focus on the existing problems in the country’s tax system.
Armenia launched tax and customs reforms this year, among which was reorganization of the tax and customs services into the State Revenue Committee.-0-
