YEREVAN, July 30. /ARKA/. At a meeting on Thursday, the Armenian government decided to provide support to 135 commercial fish farms located in the Ararat and Armavir regions.
As reported by Armenian Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan, the support will be provided to VAT-paying farms engaged in trout and sturgeon farming, as well as the production of fertilized caviar and edible caviar.
"Support will be provided in the form of a one-time compensation according to the following formula: 20% of the average monthly cost of fish feed purchased in the first half of 2026. The cost of one kilogram of feed is calculated at 900 drams," Papoyan said at the government meeting.
He noted that purchased feed must be certified and comply with EAEU and EU standards.
According to the minister, the need to implement the program stems from the financial difficulties faced by producers due to restrictions on the export of fish and fish products.
The project is intended to mitigate these difficulties, allowing economic entities to reduce prices on the domestic market and increase consumption, while simultaneously seeking new foreign markets.
Restrictions on the supply of Armenian goods to Russia
Since the end of May, Russia has been gradually introducing restrictions on the supply of certain products from Armenia, citing violations of phytosanitary requirements.
The restrictions affected flowers, mineral water, and certain types of alcoholic beverages, vegetables, fruits, berries, grapes, potatoes, and dried fruits. Later, restrictions were extended to live fish and fish products, and, as of July 27, to dairy products.
The restrictions also include a ban on the transit of products of Armenian origin through Russia to other EAEU countries.
