YEREVAN, March 31. /ARKA/. Russian scientific and manufacturing enterprises expressed their interest in participation in major programs in Armenia at the 16th meeting if Armenian-Russian commission for interparliamentary cooperation in Moscow on March 26, Armenian Co-Chair of the commission Aram Safaryan said at “Novosti” International Press Center Tuesday.
Particularly, Russian scientific and manufacturing companies of Sverdlov and Moscow regions have already voiced their interest in participating in the construction of the new nuclear power unit in Armenia, he said.
Armenia is planning to build a new nuclear power unit with capacity of approximately 1,000 megawatt. According to Armenian Ministry of Energy, the project is expected to cost about $5bln.
Safaryan also reported the interest of Russian investors in construction of Armenia-Iran railroad and development of uranium deposits.
In order to intensify the trade and economic cooperation between Russian and Armenia, the commission suggested increasing the number of mutual visits of businessmen. Delegations of Armenian entrepreneurs are to visit Moscow and Chelyabinsk in 2009, Safaryan said stressing the importance of direct ties between the regions of the Russian Federation and Armenia.
According to the Russian side, Moscow, Sverdlov, Rostov and Krasnodar regions are the leaders in terms of cooperation with Armenia.
Member of the Armenian delegation in the commission Hermine Naghdalyan, in her turn, said that the interparliamentary commission was focused on search for internal reserves and resources to expand economic cooperation under the world crisis conditions.
The level of economic cooperation between Armenia and Russia should be brought up to that of the political and humanitarian cooperation between the countries, she said. She pointed out the importance of Armenian companies’ participation in constriction of Olympic facilities in Sochi in this respect.
The interparliamentary commission will continue giving consideration to this issue, she said. –0—
