07.09.2010, 00:33
Artak Shaboyan, chairman of Armenia’s anti-trust agency said today the agency is watching closely the situation in the buckwheat and flour markets.
YEREVAN, September 6, /ARKA/. Artak Shaboyan, chairman of Armenia’s anti-trust agency said today the agency is watching closely the situation in the buckwheat and flour markets. Speaking at a news conference he said the State Commission for Protection of Economic Competition was studying the situation at flour market. The move was prompted by rising prices of flour in Armenia and elsewhere after Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin said earlier that his government will ban import of grains at least until the end of this year.

According to Shaboyan, forwarding companies took advantage of these developments to raise their tariffs. He said prices of flour went down by 20% after rising in mid August. The current price per one kg in Armenia is 200 Drams.
Regarding the buckwheat Shaboyan said this market had never been examined previously, but after the latest surge of its prices the Commission has asked the State Revenue Commission for necessary data to find out if there is a dominating company in this market.-0-
