Single government structure to deal with food safety issues
YEREVAN, December 30. / ARKA /. The Armenian government adopted on Thursday a decision on the establishment of a government-affiliated structure to tackle food safety issues and also approved its charter and composition.
Government Chief of Staff David Sargsyan said during a government session today the single government body will be responsible for all stages of food safety.
"The government expects that by doing so we will eliminate duplication of interagency interests and functions," he said.
In accordance with the government decisions the newly formed structure is vested with power to deal with food safety, veterinary and phytosanitary issues. It is also vested with power to deal with plant quarantine and plant protection issues.
In this regard, Prime Minister Tigran Sarkisian said that the regulation of food safety is one of the most important programs implemented in cooperation with the EU. -0-
