Yerevan municipality will continue the struggle against illegal street trade
YEREVAN, February 8. /ARKA/. There will not be street trade in Yerevan, said Yerevan City Mayor Karen Karapetyan on Tuesday during the fifth session of first meeting of Elderly Council.
Trade should be organized in civil way – in the markets. Today, 3 thousand trade points are suggested to the traders. They will be free-of-charge in the initial phase according to the signed agreement.
He said that directorates of the operating markets in Yerevan should pay attention to the provision of all necessary conditions.
By the assignment of the City Mayor the issue of organization of small markets upon demand will be discussed.
According to the law “On trade and services” adopted in November 2004, street trade in Yerevan is prohibited from January 1, 2006. All law-breakers should pay administrative penalty in the amount of 10-20 thousand drams.
Since then Yerevan Municipality regularly announces about a new wave of active struggle against street trade which causes dissatisfaction of the traders. They organize protest actions from time to time. Despite the efforts of the municipality, street trade in Yerevan continues in some way after the bans. -0-
