Armenia’s regulatory commission plans to extend term of mobile cards registration

The RA Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) plans to extend the term of the registration of mobile cards till January 1, 2008. The issue will be discussed during the PSRC meeting on October 30, the press service of the commission reports.
YEREVAN, October 26. /ARKA/. The RA Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) plans to extend the term of the registration of mobile cards till January 1, 2008. The issue will be discussed during the PSRC meeting on October 30, the press service of the commission reports.
For national security reasons and taking into account anti-terrorist measures in Armenia, on March 30, 2007 the Public Services Regulatory Commission made a decision on signing a public agreement with all the mobile subscribers in Armenia as from July 1, 2007. According to the PSRC decision, agreements must be signed not later than November 1, 2007.
The ArmenTel Company has turned to the PSRC for extending the term of prepayment cards up to February 1, 2008.
Armenia has two mobile phone operators at present. These are the ArmenTel CJSC (the Russian Vimpelcom under the Bee Line brand is the absolute shareholder of the company) and the K-Telecom CJSC under the VivaCell brand (the Russian MTS (Mobile TeleSystems) holds 80% of the company, the remaining 20% belongs to the Lebanese Fttouch Group).
In late 2006 ArmenTel had about 608,500 stationary telephony users and 452,000 mobile telephony subscribers. On July 1, 2007 K-Telecom had about 986,000 subscribers. Z. Sh. –0--
