Armenia's foreign trade in H1 slashes by by 45% to $9.7 billion

YEREVAN, August 6. /ARKA/. Armenia's foreign trade turnover slashed by 45% in January-June 2025 compared to the same period in 2024 to $9,668,653.2 thousand, according to the National Statistical Committee.
Russia is Armenia's largest foreign trade partner with trade turnover standing at $3,406,620.2 thousand, which is a 54.8% decline compared to the first six months of last year.
Armenia's foreign trade turnover with EU countries amounted to $1,158,999.9 thousand, marking a 9.5% increase. The top five largest trading partners are Germany ($218,422.3 thousand; a 3.3% decline), Italy ($205,357.8 thousand; a 3.8% increase), France ($111,952.0 thousand; a 63.6% increase), the Netherlands ($96,331.2 thousand; a 17.7% increase), and Belgium ($83,109.5 thousand; a 4.7% increase).
The following stand out among other countries in terms of trade turnover with Armenia in January–June 2025: China ($1,196,442.5 thousand, down 15%), the UAE ($1,130,000.2 thousand, down 69.4%), Iran ($342,555.5 thousand, up 6%), the USA ($180,044.2 thousand, down 23.1%), and Iraq ($171,231.1 thousand, up 95.6%).
Exports
From January to June of 2025, exports from Armenia decreased by 52.8% compared to the same period in 2024, amounting to $3,755,639.8 thousand. Exports to Russia decreased by 6.2%, amounting to $1,346,124.8 thousand.
Exports to EU countries increased by 1.8% in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, reaching $286,763.3 thousand. The top three export destinations were the Netherlands ($62,397.9 thousand, up 10.3%), Belgium ($55,432.7 thousand, up 2.4%), and Germany ($53,145 thousand, up 77.9%).
Other countries to which Armenia exported large volumes include the UAE ($1,090,790.6 thousand, down 70.3%), China ($288,320.2 thousand, down 59.6%), and Iraq ($170,973.0 thousand, up 95.4%).
According to statistics, the most significant export items in the reporting period were precious and semi-precious stones, precious metals, and products ($1,299,506.7 thousand, a 77% decline compared to January–June 2024); machinery, equipment, and mechanisms" ($551,200.3 thousand, a 9.4% decline); finished products of the food industry ($550,774.5 thousand, a 31.9% increase); mining industry ($516,309 thousand).9 thousand (an increase of 4.7%), textiles - $155,406.6 thousand (a decline of 12.1%), base metals and products - $146,251.5 thousand (a decline of 11.4%).
Imports
From January to June of 2025, the volume of imports to Armenia amounted to $5,913,013.4 thousand, which is a 38.6% decline compared to the same period in 2024. Exporting countries included Russia ($2,136,989.9 thousand, a 65.5% decline), EU countries (upy 8.9%0. The top three exporting countries are Germany ($195,733.6 million, down 2.6%), Italy ($181,727.6 million, up 16.6%), and the Netherlands ($83,803.7 million, down 15.6%).
The top three producing countries are Italy ($177,666.5 thousand, an increase of 7.2%), Germany ($165,277.3 thousand, a decline of 15.7%), and France ($109,047.0 thousand, an increase of 69.2%).
The largest import volumes from exporting countries are also from China ($645,986.6 thousand, up 2.3%), Georgia ($341,154.6 thousand, down 2.3%), Iran ($300,641 thousand, up 10.1%), the United States ($190,236.9 thousand, down 5.5%), and the United Arab Emirates ($185,567.7 thousand, down 20.4%). The top five exporting countries are China ($908,122.3 thousand, an increase of 31%), Iran ($297,057.7 thousand, an increase of 10%), the USA ($153,521.6 thousand, a decline of 25.4%).
According to official statistics, the main imports from January to June 2025 were in the following product groups: machinery, equipment, and mechanisms ($1,209,331.1 thousand, an increase of 0.4%); precious and semi-precious stones, precious metals, and articles thereof ($1,115,631.8 thousand, a decline of 78.8%); land, air, and water transport vehicles ($558,710.3 thousand, an increase of 29.5%); mining industry ($555,682.9 thousand, an increase of 6%).%, finished products of the food industry – $383,987.0 thousand (an increase of 28.1%),textiles and articles thereof – $301,113.0 thousand (a decline of 2.8%), and base metals and articles thereof" – $296,043.8 thousand (an increase of 16.3%).-0-
