Armenia’s wheat production in 2012 reached about 240,000 tons, surpassing last year’s figure by 7.4%, agriculture minister Sergo Karapetyan said Sunday at the opening of An agricultural forum on the sidelines of ArmFood 2012 exhibition.

YEREVAN, October 22. / ARKA /. Armenia’s wheat production in 2012 reached about 240,000 tons, surpassing last year’s figure by 7.4%, agriculture minister Sergo Karapetyan said Sunday at the opening of An agricultural forum on the sidelines of ArmFood 2012 exhibition.
Karapetian said the government imported 640 metric tons of elite wheat seeds from Russia which were distributed to 166 farmers for winter sowing.
He said another 20 tons of super-elite seeds were distributed to 12 farms engaged in seed growing. The minister said farmers also received 2,741 tons of seeds grown by local farms that were given elite seeds a year before.
The minister said according to averaged data for the past three years, the gross output of crops totaled 398 billion drams. He said crops account for about 59% of gross agricultural output. ($1 – 406.13 drams). -0-
