YEREVAN, January 16. /ARKA/. The Armenian parliament has passed today in the second and final reading a draft law "On the Audit Chamber". Gagik Minasyan, the head of a parliamentary committee on financial and budget affairs, said the Audit Chamber will replace the parliament-appointed Control Chamber. He said the change stems from the Constitutional amendments, approved in 2015 in a national referendum.
"In fact, the functions of the Control and Audit chambers are the same. They inspect the effectiveness of management of public funds and state-owned property, however, under the Constitutional changes the Audit Chamber will be more independent, because it will not depend on the parliament,’ Minasyan said.
According to him, the law stipulates that the Audit Chamber will have a number of new powers, in particular, it will receive independence from the parliament and will independently determine the program of its activities.
He said unlike the Control Chamber the new structure will be overseeing the use of all budget means. -0-
