Armenia will spend €40 million on energy saving and energy efficiency programs, Areg Galstyan, Armenian deputy energy and natural resources minister said on Monday.

YEREVAN, March 15. /ARKA/. Armenia will spend €40 million on energy saving and energy efficiency programs, Areg Galstyan, Armenian deputy energy and natural resources minister said on Monday.
Armenian lawmakers are now discussing at the first reading amendments to the energy saving and renewable energy law and other related laws.
The deputy minister said that few pilot projects have been implemented in energy saving and energy efficiency area over several years because of the lack of financial resources in grants and loans.
“Now we have an arrangement with the World Bank and expect to receive resources for development of energy saving technologies, resources will also come from European organizations and €25 million is expected to be provided by Germany’s KfW Bank,” he said.
Galsyan said that these instruments are planned to be tested within two or three years, and after that the necessity of attracting extra resources will be considered.
He said that these resources and legislative changes will make it possible to spur development of this segment and attract investments.
The deputy minister pointed out referring to calculations that introduction of energy efficiency and energy saving system reduces energy spending per one square meter from 120 kWh to 50 kWh. --0---
