Consumer prices in Armenia down 3.1% from December 2015

Consumer prices in Armenia went 3.1% down in October 2016, compared with December 2015, Gurgen Martirosyan, advisor to the head of the National Statistical Service said Wednesday at a news conference.

YEREVAN, November 9. /ARKA/. Consumer prices in Armenia went 3.1% down in October 2016, compared with December 2015, Gurgen Martirosyan, advisor to the head of the National Statistical Service said Wednesday at a news conference. 

“Prices for foods fell 6%, for nonfoods 2.4% and for services 0.7%,” he said. “Prices rose only in four commodity groups – eggs (by 8.1%), fruits (11.6%), sugar (12.3%) and soft drinks (3.5%).”

He also said that in October 2016, compared with September 2016, consumer prices went 0.5% up – for foods rose 0.6% and nonfoods 1.1%, while prices for services remained unchanged. 

Martirosyan said that egg prices rose 0.9%, prices for potatoes and vegetables jumped 6.2%, fruits went 0.2% up, sugar climbed 2.9%, adipose and vegetable oil 0.7%, the same with fish products and meat products, dairy rose 0.2% and spirits along with tobacco products grew 0.9%.    

Instead, bread products became 0.3% cheaper in October 2016 than in September 2016, confectionery shed 1.1% and soft drinks slid 0.1%. 

Martirosyan also said that in January 2016, compared with December 2015, prices leapt 2.2%, and in February and March they were going down. 

According to the official statistical reports, consumer prices in Armenia slipped 0.9% in October 2016, compared to October 2015. --0----
