Decision to raise public transport fares in Yerevan emerges at municipality’s official website

Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan’s decision dated from July 19 to raise public transport fares in the city emerged at the official website of the municipality today.

YEREVAN, July 24. /ARKA/. Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan’s decision dated from July 19 to raise public transport fares in the city emerged at the official website of the municipality today.
“Grounding on requests from the organizations servicing 48 routs and the conclusion made by the tender commission at a session held on July 17, 2013 on organization and implementation of regular passenger transportations in Yerevan and being guided by Provision 3 of Part 1 of the Article 57 of the Law on Local Self-government in Yerevan, Provision 2, Part 1 of Article 39 of the Law on Local Self-government and Part 5 of Article 11 of the Law on Motor Transport the municipality decided 1. To revise the fare for regular bus (microbus) transportations carried out by companies which service routs inside Yerevan setting it at 150 drams for one passenger starting from July 20,2013 (Decision 3661-A).”
The second point instructs the chief of the municipality’s division in charge of transport to amend contracts with the companies servicing routs in accordance with the decision.
Henrik Navasardyan, chief of the municipality’s transport unit, will organize will be in charge of the implementation of this decision.
In the same document the municipality raises the trolleybus fare from 50 drams to 100 drams grounding from Electric Transport of Yerevan CJSC’s request dated from July 17, 2013.
There are 132 routs in Yerevan. Of them, 47 are served by buses and the remaining routs are served by microbuses.
This price hike has triggered public backlash in Yerevan. Protests are being staged here with slogan “We Refuse to Pay 150 Drams!” representatives of show business, political activists and journalists have launched own protest campaign called Free Car. They are carrying people from remote areas of the city to downtown and back in their cars for free.
Besides, public activists are distributing leaflets calling people not to pay new fares. ---0---
