EBRD president to visit Armenia to discuss new cooperation strategy

Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who is in Swiss davos to attend the annual economic forum, had a meeting today with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Suma Chakrabarti, the Armenian government’s press service reported.

YEREVAN, December 21 /ARKA/. Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who is in Swiss davos to attend the annual economic forum, had a meeting today with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Suma Chakrabarti, the Armenian government’s press service reported.
It said Pashinyan appreciated highly the cooperation between the government of Armenia and the EBRD, saying also that EBRD programs implemented in Armenia are important for the success of reforms and economic progress helping to promote the country’s private sector competitiveness, develop capital markets, manage solid waste, improve the water supply system, urban lighting and other industries.
Stressing the importance of the implementation of EBRD programs for small and medium-sized businesses in Armenia, Pashinyan added that the goal of the government is to give a new impetus to the development and revitalization of the business sector. The Prime Minister stressed that the steps of the government are aimed at carrying out an economic revolution, and in this regard, active and productive cooperation with the EBRD may be of great importance.
Chakrabarti stressed that the EBRD is ready to continue to support the Armenian government in the implementation of the programs outlined in various areas. The EBRD President informed that in March he plans to visit Armenia to discuss a new cooperation strategy that will give greater attention to small and medium-sized businesses.
The president of the bank expressed support for the reforms in Armenia, noting that its assistance will be both financial and advisory. -0-
