YEREVAN, April 19 /ARKA /. Armenia’s economy is expected to grow by 5.3% in 2019, according to the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB). EDB said in a study that Armenia’s economic activity in January-February 2019 increased by 6.5% y / y driven in the first place by construction, trade and services.
The bank said the growth in the construction sector may indicate the recovery of investment activity, largely financed by the budget.
According to the bank’s forecast, investments will continue to support economic growth in 2019, which the bank expects at the level of 5.3%.
The EDB survey notes that inflation stopped falling amid economic growth recovery, and by the end of February-March 2019 remained at the level of 1.9% y / y (in January 2019 it was 0.6% y / y).
"We expect a gradual increase in inflation during 2019 to 2.8%, which will contribute to the growth of domestic demand with increasing wages and lending," according to EDB.
The Central Bank of Armenia projects 4% (± 1.5%) 12-month inflation for 2019. The government’s GDP projection is 4.9%; inflation projection is 2.7%. -0---
