EEC proposes to set the duty-free threshold for import of goods at the level of 200 euros for 2025

YEREVAN, 25 September. /ARKA/. The Eurasian Economic Commission (executive body of the Eurasian Economic Union - EAEU) is preparing decisions on tariff regulation of external electronic trade.
EEC Trade Minister Andrei Slepnev said that work is underway to prepare decisions on establishing a single rate of customs duty on a new category of goods - ‘electronic commerce goods’, as well as the duty-free import threshold.
He reminded that the relevant rate and threshold should begin to operate simultaneously with the entry into force of amendments to the Customs Code of the Eurasian Economic Union, singling out e-commerce as a separate type of economic activity.
As Slepnev noted, as a starting point for discussion, it is proposed to establish a single rate of 5%, and the duty-free import threshold is set at the level of 200 euros for 2025 with a further possible gradual reduction until 2028. The proposed rate of 5 per cent does not exceed the level of the weighted average import duty rate currently in force in the Union.
‘As for the thresholds, we understand that the introduction of the new regulation will require a comfortable transition period to allow consumers, sellers and electronic trading platforms to adapt to the changed situation,’ the minister said, adding that the final position on the flat rate and duty-free import threshold will be formed as a result of a consensus by the parties.-0-
