Energy development program to be ready in Armenia this year

Comprehensive measures are being worked out now in Armenia under the prime minister’s instruction for further development of energy, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Yervand Zakharyan said Friday as discussed the matter with heads of the concerned agencies and representatives of the World Bank at a meeting initiated by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan.

YEREVAN, September 26. /ARKA/. Comprehensive measures are being worked out now in Armenia under the prime minister’s instruction for further development of energy, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Yervand Zakharyan said Friday as discussed the matter with heads of the concerned agencies and representatives of the World Bank at a meeting initiated by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan.
He said the program will be ready before the end of this year.
World Bank Regional Director for the South Caucasus Henry Kerali thanked the Armenian government for cooperation and spoke on the results of the study carried out in energy area.
Pointing out considerable progress that has been reached in this area in the last 15 years, he stressed the necessity of the next stage of reforms.
He WB representatives, who have made a comprehensive analysis of Armenia’s energy, presented its results at the meeting indicating achievements and problems in this area. They also outlined steps to be taken in the nearest years.
Energy security issues, ways to enhance the energy supply reliability and possible introduction of new infrastructures were discussed at the meeting as well. Special attention was paid to cooperation between public and private sectors.
Summarizing the results of the meeting, the prime minister expressed gratitude to the World Bank for effective cooperation and stressed that the government’s goal is to ensure a stable energy sector to the country’s economy.
Kerali pledged support and expressed willingness to provide technical assistance and advisory services to the Armenian government. --0-----
