Food prices in Armenia drop by 4 percent in February

In February 2020, prices for foodstuffs and soft drinks in Armenia decreased by 4.1% compared to February 2019, and by 0.8% compared to January 2020.

YEREVAN, March 5. /ARKA/. In February 2020, prices for foodstuffs and soft drinks in Armenia decreased by 4.1% compared to February 2019, and by 0.8% compared to January 2020. According to the National Statistical Committee, the drop in prices resulted from a decline in the prices for dairy products, cheese and eggs, as well as meat products.

 Prices of dairy products, cheese and eggs in February fell by 7.6%, year-on-year and by 4.4% from the previous month. In February 2020, prices of eggs fell by 25.9% compared to February 2019, and by 18.3% compared to January 2020.
In February 2020, prices of meat products fell by 4% compared with February 2019, and by 1.1% compared to January 2020.

Fish and seafood also fell in price: in February prices fell by 4.5% from the year earlier, and  by 0.4% from January 2020.

Prices of vegetables in February 2020 compared with February 2019 decreased by 12.9%, and compared with January 2020 - by 0.1%. Fruits in February fell by 2.1% and  0.1% respectively. Sugar prices in February dropped by  13.2% year-on-year  and increased by 0.3% from 2020 January.

Bakery products and cereals, soft drinks, oils and fats, as well as coffee, tea and cocoa in February 2020 compared with February 2019 increased by 0.1%, soft drinks - by 0.2% and alcoholic drinks and tobacco products - by 4.3%.
Moreover, according to statistical data, prices for non-food products in February 2020 increased by 1.9% compared to February last year, and decreased by 0.2% compared to January 2020.

In general, consumer prices in Armenia in February 2020 compared to February 2019 decreased by 0.5%,-0-
