Infrastructure capabilities to resume operation of Kars (Turkey) - Gyumri (Armenia) railway under assessment- Mirzoyan

YEREVAN, November 13. /ARKA/.Infrastructure capabilities to resume the operation of the Kars (Turkey) - Gyumri (Armenia) railway are being assessed, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said today.
"Speaking about communications, we cannot but talk about the closed border between Armenia and Turkey, the possibility of its opening and restarting the related infrastructure," Mirzoyan said in parliament.
‘I must note that, as before, an assessment of the checkpoints and adjacent infrastructures for road communications was carried out jointly with Turkey. A similar process is taking place around the Kars-Gyumri railway,’ he added.
He also said that a dynamic dialogue is underway with Turkey, the goal of which is to establish diplomatic relations, open borders and launch communications.
Earlier, the special representatives for the negotiations between Armenia and Turkey met in July of this year at the renovated Margara checkpoint in Armenia.
They were said to have agreed to jointly assess the technical requirements for restarting the border crossing on the Gyumri-Kars railway. Then, on October 18, Mirzoyan said at the ministerial meeting of the regional platform "3+3" in Istanbul that the commissioning of the Gyumri-Kars railway between Armenia and Turkey, together with the railway connection between Armenia and Azerbaijan, would ensure effective communication between the Persian Gulf, the Black Sea, the Caspian and the Mediterranean Seas.-0-
